Begin this action packed mini-tour in Taormina - the most famous resort town and breathtaking place in Sicily. Journey on to Mt Etna, which is the highest active volcano in Europe, at 3343 meters high.  We drive up to 2000 meters, jump on the Funivia (cable car) to 2500 meters and then walk or drive to 2900 meters depending on Etna’s mood. On the way back down we visit a famous Sicilian winery for a five course degustation with wines.

 

We then head down to Siracusa, which is located in the southeast corner of the island of Sicily, next to the Gulf of Syracuse beside the Ionian Sea. This 2,700-year-old city played a key role in ancient times, when Sicily was one of the major powers of the Mediterranean world.

Visit a little piece of paradise rising out of the cobalt-blue seas off Sicily's north-eastern coast, the Unesco-protected Eeolian Islands (Vulcano, Lipari, Salina, Panarea, Stromboli, Filicudi and Alicudi). Stunning waters provide sport for swimmers, sailors and divers, while trekkers can climb hissing volcanoes and gourmets can sip honey-sweet Malvasia wine.

We then go north to Cefalu and Palermo. Cefalu which is a hidden gem of Sicily on the coast.  Here you can relax and experience Sicilian lifestyle, sip on great coffee in the piazza and wander through the beautiful  winding streets and cathedral. In Palermo we will explore the city via horse and carriage and hear about the fascinating modern history of its people.

The Valley of the Temples is an archaeological site in Agrigento, It is one of the most outstanding examples of Greek art and architecture, and is one of the main attractions of Sicily as well as a national monument of Italy. 

Nearby Agrigento is the Scala dei Turchi (Italian: "Stair of the Turks") which is a spectacular rocky cliff on the coast.  The Scala, a world heritage site, is formed by marl, a sedimentary rock with a characteristic white color. It lies between two sandy beaches, and is accessed through a limestone rock formation in the shape of a staircase, hence the name.

We will dine on seafood ‘to die for’ right on the beachfront in the same restaurant as Montalbano!  Swim in the azure blue waters where Montalbano does his daily swim then explore the churches and piazzas of the hilltop ancient walled towns where many of the famous scenes are shot.  A must for Montalbano fans!
